Q:

I believe the switch in my unit #315799540 may have failed and needs to be replaced. 315799540 Craftsman Hedge trimmer

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Craftsman hedge trimmer model 315799540. I am so sorry there is an issue with the switch.   I understand wanting to complete the repair yourself. In this case we advise against it.

This product has a double insulated system. Any repair of this tool requires dielectric testing to ensure the operator’s safety. To avoid the possibility of alteration or damage to the double insulated system, service should only be performed by your nearest Sears repair center. The repair must be completed using the necessary diagnostic and testing equipment to assure continued compliance with applicable UL requirements. After the completion of the repair, the product must be checked using high voltage testing equipment to prevent a severe shock hazard which may occur if the part is not properly installed and tested.

For these safety reasons we do not have a technical manual or electrical diagram that we can provide you.

Here at SearsPartsDirect.com we love to help you with your do-it-yourself repair projects, but in this case, for your safety, the router should only be repaired by a qualified technician with the proper testing equipment. Thank you for your understanding in this matter and thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Rachel I appreciate that you have responded to my inquiry very much. However, since I sent in my request for information, I made numerous other contacts to determine a best approach to solve my issue. I contacted our local Sears "Hometown Dealer Store" to look for assistance. They informed me that they do not have staff to perform repair work. They gave me the names of three local repair shops. One has not returned my call, and two others I have used before for mowers, chain saws, etc. I do not know if they do work on electrical equipment, and they always have rather long wait times. It seems I have taken on step forward and two steps backward. In lieu of my situation, I need to find a way to proceed. I would like a simple answer to a simple question, if I may. Any steps forward will be fully my own decisions and responsibilities. The questions are: "Will the internal components within the trimmer come out falling all over the place" and/or are there any other diagrams, instructional manual(s), or other third party videos of which I can get informational DIY step-by-step instructions that that may included as a part of the video by a video". Any further information as requested will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for your assistance!!

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the trimmer. If the blades are not moving enough to cut, I suspect the problem is in the blade or the gear. If the eccentric on the gear is worn, the blade will not move. To inspect the gear you need to unplug the trimmer. Then remove the plastic cover from the bottom of the trimmer. With it removed, you should be able to see the eccentric and the blade. If these parts do not fit tight, you need to determine which is worn out. If the gear assembly is worn, you will need to purchase a new trimmer. The reason is the gear is no longer available.

I hope this is helpful. If you need further assistance, please reply below with more details.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
