Question and Answers

Q:

Miter Saw squeals.

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
Sorry to hear of the squealing you are experiencing when the trigger is released. I know how concerning that is to have occur.

This model has an electric brake which is a dynamic braking system within the windings of the motor.
When you release the trigger switch the voltage shifts to the braking circuit to stop the motor. It reverses the voltage to stop the blades forward rotation.
The brake could be the issue here as when you took the blade off, the sound went away. Also, you mention that it only happens when the trigger is released, which is when the brake should be engaging.
However, before jumping head-long into the motor windings, I would try to lubricate the blade washers first. They will need oiling periodically and can definitely causing the squealing if they are not lubed. I would also clean any debris, sawdust, and blow out the motor area occasionally.
Hope these suggestions help and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

Saw does not start. 315243150 Craftsman Miter saw

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

If the motor hums with the switch engaged and it hums when you jump the switch, then it's not likely the switch. It could have a bad stator or armature. I strongly suggest taking the saw in for service.
