Thank you for your question on adjusting the router.

Sometimes time and nonuse is not a friend of power tools.

I would suggest completely re-moving the motor unit from the base and then a clean and dry all the thread grooves on the adjuster and the put in back together with no lubricant at all. It will just attract more saw dust.
