Question and Answers

Q:

I have a belt sander model 315.117920. The belt comes off when I start it. Where is the adjustment?

A:

There is no adjustment for the centering of the sanding belt. The spring on the front roller keeps tension on the belt.

Something might have worn on the roller shaft or the yoke assembly causing the roller to not be square.

You might also have a buildup of sawdust preventing the yoke assembly from sliding true.

Blow the sander out and check for any buildup of sawdust. If the sander is clean, inspect the yoke for wear.

A:

There is a screw adjuster knob on the front left, top side - there is a tiny part that connects to the rollers. If the belt gets too close to it it, it gets cut in 1/2.

Q:

Pulley kit part #989366 for craftsman belt sander model 315.117920 315117920 Craftsman 4 inch belt sander

Q:

i cannot get the sanding belts to fit they seem a tiny bit short or i cant adjust the springs back far enough 315117920 Craftsman 4 inch belt sander

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I would suspect that something is amiss with the release lever or related components not allowing the spring to compress far enough to release the tension. I would try to shoot compressed air into it to clean it of any sawdust or debris. Sometimes a few shots of WD40 once cleaned will help. If that doesn't work, I would recommend disassembling it and check on the release lever, spring, and bushings.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
