I had the same problem. I blew dust out of the switch and cleaned it with ether and it's now working.

Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com, and for being a valued member. 

Unfortunately, the switch (998895-001) has since been discontinued due to the age of the belt sander with no direct substitution offered. The design of the switch may have changed from the original and we do not have anything compatible. The only options I can foresee would be to run an internet search for the part number to see if you can find one for sale or to visit an electrical supply locally to find something similar enough to sub in. I think either option is a stretch but may be worth checking out.
