Question and Answers

Q:

I have the orbital sander it is probably 30 years old. I have never been able to keep the sand paper on. Whats the deal? 315116112 Craftsman Sander

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your Craftsman Orbital Sander. I am so sorry to hear you are having difficulty keeping the sand paper attached. Especially since you stated it has been an on-going problem. Unfortunately due to the age of the product, the owner's manual for this model was never put online so I am unable to review any literature on it. If you still have your manual, there should be a section that helps you troubleshoot this issue. The manufacturer still prints the manual. so in case you don't have a copy, I have included the link for you to order it.

Unfortunately, a lot of the parts that could be the cause of the problem are no longer available. This means if you need to replace a part like the bearing plate or the disc, the sander will not be repairable. The cushion, the part the sandpaper attaches to is still available. It is a part that will wear with use and may need to be replaced periodically. I have included the link to order that part for your.

In case the sander is not repairable, I have included the link for you to see the new sanders we have available.

The sander would have been repaired or replaced at Sears' cost during the warranty period or if you purchased a protection agreement on it. Normally the warranty period for a tool like this would have been between 90 days up to 2 years. Because it is an electric sander it does not fall under our lifetime warranty on non-powered hand tools.

I hope this answers your questions. If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Q:

Orbital sander model 315116112 will not hold sand paper. This has been an ongoing problem since the sander was new. What is wrong?

A:

I am sending you a page from the owners manual with instructions for installing the sand paper on your sander. You might not have the paper installed properly.

If the sand paper is installed correctly, check to see if you have a piece of paper jammed in the paper clamp and not letting it clamp the paper securely.
