Q:

Is there an adjustment to make in order for spindle assembly to move up/down freely?

A:

First, the model number you submitted in not a valid number. Could it be 113.24610 instead of 113.24810? I do not have service manual or the user's manual for this 1972 model drill press, however there is a parts breakdown and image at Sears Parts Direct. I added the link to Sears Parts Direct below to click on. You can view the parts list. It may help you in seeing the related parts.

The spring most likely is not the problem; the spring is used to return/raise the quill tube back up when you release the handle. The quill tube or shaft may need cleaning and lubricated. The image should help you disassemble and remove the spindle assembly.

I recommend calling a service technician to repair your drill press.

Thanks Joey, the model number is right ,#315.10280 it is a hand held 1/2" Drill,I have a printout from Sears web site of the drill,i'am thinking they may have used locktight on the threads to hold it tight on the Gear & Spindle assy.

I have a Drill Press made in 1972 model 113.24810 and the control that raises/lower the drill bit assembly is not working freely. It seems to be stuck. Is there an adjustment spring that works on this? If there is an adjustment how do I adjust the spring? I asked for a manual and they don't seem able to find one. Don't know where this question came from,it's not a standup drill press.

Q:

Part no longer avalable 31510280 Craftsman Craftsman 1/2 inch electric drill

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer hasn't substituted a switch in place of the original, more than likely due to a switch design change.
The best option you have would be to run an online search for "Switch 990937-000" and see if any are still in circulation online.
Outside of that option, you could visit an electrical supply locally to see if you could match one up, but this would be a long shot since the design has more than likely changed from the original.
Hopefully you will find one online available for sale. Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Thank you for your question.

I have found a wiring diagram for this switch.

There were a couple of models, one early and one later and you may want to look to see which one of these two versions matches your model.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.
