Question and Answers

Q:

Why is my Magic Chef oven not maintaining baking temperature.

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The problem with the oven not maintaining temperature is most likely the oven glow bar igniter. The oven igniter must pull enough current/amperage (3.2-3.6 amps) to open the oven gas valve and to keep it open. Open the broiler drawer and watch the oven glow bar igniter. When you find the temperature dropping, if the glow bar igniter is glowing and has been glowing for 60 seconds are longer without the burner ignition, replace the glow bar igniter and your oven will most likely maintain the temperature and the burner will most likely ignite a lot faster.

The oven igniter part #12400035 for the Magic Chef gas range model 31203KAW can be ordered from Searspartsdirect.com

The oven burner igniter can be accessed and replaced by removing the oven floor. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

Gas Magic Chef 31203KAW Oven no spark

A:

A non working Oven is not something any of us want to see. If you are technically handy, this is a good site to get instruction and fix some things yourself. If you do not feel confident doing your own repairs, an option is to visit Sears Home Services and use the scheduler. While you wait for the expert to review your model, you can check the bottom link for some possibilities. Hope this is of help.

A:

The amp draw on your ignitor should be 3.4-3.6. If your ignitor is not glowing, measure the voltage to the ignitor. If you have 120 volts ac, the ignitor is bad.
