I have a Tappan stove that runs about 60 degrees hotter than the thermostat is set on model # 30-3979-00/02n

A:

Based on your symptom the oven thermostat is faulty. You could possibly calibrate the thermostat by removing the thermostat knob and loosening the 2 screws on the back of the thermostat knob and rotate the dial to a cooler setting.

If calibrating the thermostat does not help; the oven thermostat has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source for the part.
