Q:

Fridge light going on and off randomly

A:

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your refrigerator. Based on the information listed, it would appear one of the light switches has failed. This could also be a problem with the control board but it does not appear to be as likely. These switches are inexpensive and I recommend replacing both switches. The switches will pry out. Be sure to disconnect the power first. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, please click on this link to schedule service: Sears Home Services. Click on "Get Started" and follow the directions, click on the red "NEXT" button to continue. I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks, the parts came in and I am having issues prying the switches out. Is that normal or is there a trick to it. I don't want to mess anything up.

To remove the switch, wedge a small flat-head screwdriver between the freezer shell and the cover plate for the switch. Pry the cover plate off to remove the switch from the freezer. If you do not have a small enough screwdriver, you can use a clean putty knife. Pull the slide-on connectors off the back of the switch. Make note of the orientation of each wire. If you are having trouble pulling the wire off, use small needle nose pliers on the connector end that is going to be replaced. Then pry the switch out. It's held in place with a couple of tabs. A small screwdriver can be used to pry the switch out. Be sure to disconnect the power first. Please let me know if there is anything else you need. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Hi Leisa and AnneJ, I know this conversation is from 2013 but I decided to google search on this exact problem I'm having with my refrigerator and voila! It brought me here. :) I'm just curious as to if replacing the switch was the solution? My light was going on and off maybe once a week but now most of the day it remains off so I think it's time. The light on the outside water dispenser stays on, it is not affected though. Thanks!

Q:

door buzzer 79575554401 Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing Searspartsdirect.com and being a valued member. I can certainly assist you.

It sounds to me like you will need to replace the door switch. I recommend opening both doors and checking if the door beeps with one of them closed. That will determine which door switch to replace.

6600JB3007A is the door switch.
The door alarm will sound if the door switch (6600JB3007A) is not working or if the main control board (6871JB1280P) has failed. Most of the time in this case, it's an issue with the alar circuit on the main control board. If the light is turning off when the door is closed the door switches are working good and the main board needs replacement.

Can I get some help on installing door Switch Part No. 6600jb3007b 79577553600

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about instructions for replacing the door switch, part number 6600JB3007B, on your Kenmore Elite refrigerator model 79577553600. I am so sorry the part needs to be replaced. I will be happy to help you with this.

Disconnecting the door switch is part of the procedure for removing the door. I have included an image at the bottom of this post of the door removal process. I realize you don’t need to take the door off, but this will show you how to access the wire harness to disconnect the switch before removing and replacing it.

SAFETY WARNING: Disconnect the power supply before beginning your project to prevent the risk of electrical shock which can result in property damage, serious personal injury or even death. Internal parts may have sharp edges. Use caution and wear work gloves to prevent serious cuts. If you are not comfortable completing this repair, you can set up service at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME).
