Often a worn gear issue indicates other problems with the garage door. The spring may not be working correctly, causing the gears to wear. I recommend releasing the emergency release on the trolley and check if the door raises and lowers easily. If there is resistance or if the door does not stay when left halfway, then you do need a professional to service the door. If the door operates smoothly manually, you should be able to replace the gears, add some lubrication and get a little more use out of this unit. If this is an older unit, you would probably be better off getting a new opener. I see Anna provided the Sears Parts Direct link. Enter the model number, which is located on the operating unit to check for available parts and pricing. If you do decide to get a new opener, you can view them here; Sears . Please reply with the model number if further information is needed. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Thank you for the model number. If it just the drive gear, the part #41A2817 for $29.67 may be all that is needed. If the damage is more extensive, you may also need the gear and sprocket assembly, #41C4220A priced at $37.49. These can be ordered at the second link below. Use the first link to schedule the technician visit. The technician will advise of repair cost after inspecting. The final cost will most likely be the same as a new opener.
