It is normal for the drain pump to cycle on and off. The error code 4 usually indicates a filling fault. Note the image below. The float switch E6 is circled. If the switch trips then it will power up the m3 drain motor. The float switch would be the place to start checking. It is located on the left side of the unit and the left panel must be removed to access the switch. Remember to turn the power off first. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Please see the first picture attached. This shows the original control board and wiring. I have it installed with the dishwasher cover off and am using it this way until I can get one of the new control boards to work. (this board is the original one that works but does not actuate the soap dispenser). Please note the wiring harness does NOT have a wire connected to pin 4 on connector 4. The float switch appears to connect to the control board thru another switch on your diagram to pin 4. I also noticed this when I looked at another diagram showing the color codes of the wiring and it also shows a wire to pin 4 that I don't have. See second picture. My wiring harness color code do not match this diagram either. I wonder if the original control board (in the picture) is slightly different than the replacements I received. (part number 431430). They look the same and I didn't see any obvious jumpers, etc. However , the 2 new boards have the fill/drain/repeat issue but the old board does not. It works fine with the exception of the soap actuating problem. So I would think the float switch is okay given the old board works fine. Your thoughts? Thanks...Al

Sorry for the delay. I research the problem and found no history of similar problems. I contacted Bosch and was told for this particular model number shu66c05uc/43 the correct control board would be part number 447325 and not the 431430 control you were sent. I would suggest you try the 447325 control and see if everything works. If the dishwasher is less than 5 years old then the control should be under warranty.

Fred, I got the 447325 control board and installed it today (1-Feb-2013). No good, it does the same as the other replacement boards. The dishwasher heats up the water and then goes into a mode where it "fills and drains" about 10 times. Each time it is a short (several seconds) and I can see the water in the sink drain. After about 10 times, there is a pause of about 30 second snd it repeats the "fill and drain" sequence until I eventually cancel and drain. So I re-installed my original board so we can continue to use the dishwasher. I just have to manually open the soap dispenser about 15 minutes into the cycle but otherwise it is working fine. My original board does not do the drain and fill thing, it just works. I'm running the dishwasher with the front panel off so I can easily trip open the soap dispenser. It looks bad, but works. Any more ideas to try? The latest control board was about $350 since the dishwasher is 6 months out of warranty. At this point I wonder if it would be advisable to just return this board and buy a new dishwasher. I have been working on this since mid-December. If you have any more ideas I'd like to give it another try. Thanks...Al

Al, Did the new control at least have all the connections? I thought the new control would solve your problems. How long have you had this unit. The electronic controls can with 5 year warranties from date of installation. Would this help? I would suggest trying the Bosch customer service 1 -800-944-2904 to see if they might offer a solution and at least confirm the control for this particular dishwasher. Since the old control works except for the dispenser the replacement control whould do at least as well.

Fred, Here are the answers to your 3 questions. ........... 1 - I have 3 boards now. the Original, the 431430 replacement board, and the 447325. All 3 look identical and all of the wiring harness connectors fit. As i noted a while back the wiring harness in my dishwasher does NOT have a wire for pin 4 on connector 4. This is ONE of the wires that would connect to the fill switch per the diagram you sent. However I don't think that is the right diagram for my machine. ........... 2 - the unit is 5 1/2 years old, so that is 6 months out of warranty. ........... 3 - Yes I would expect the correct replacement board to at least work as well as the original. My suspicion is the original board has a failure in the dispenser control circuit since I know the dispenser will open when tested externally and also I don't get a signal from the control board for the dispenser. ........... I will give the Bosch number a call. Regards, Al

Bocsh indicated to me that they might be flexible on the warranty so give them a shot. The original control should be the correct since I assumed it did work for the first 5 /12 years. Let me know if Bocsh is any help.

I called and the Bosch CSR, who agreed there could be some difference in the application (based on manufacture date) but she did not have access to that information. She also confirmed that the second board 447325 is the correct one for the machine (not the 431430 originally sent). (the parts web page should be updated so it does call out the wrong part for other customers) Her solution was to have a technician come out since they would have access to additional bulletins and information.......I decided to just return the parts. Given the age of the machine and cost for both parts and a service call it was not worth pursuing. The total could exceed 50% of the cost of the machine. I have already ordered a new machine and will continue using my old one with the workarounds I have come up with until it arrives. Thanks for you help...Al
