Question and Answers

Q:

although my saw was working perfectly the rope will not recoil. what is the proper name and part number for a replacement part. a recoil clutch? 271358240 Craftsman Craftsman 1.8a chain saw

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com. I am sorry to hear of the recoil starting no longer recoiling, I know how frustrating that is.

The issue could stem from either the recoil spring (part number 17722003930) or the recoil drum (part number 177215-03930), it could even be the rope getting stuck. The rope will not be as likely as the spring or the drum, but a possibility. The best thing to do would be to disassembly the recoil assembly and visually inspect it. That should show you what's amiss.

The spring, rope, and clip are still available for purchase. The drum for this unit has been discontinued. If you need the replacement rope and clip, the part number is 17722603930.

Hopefully this helps and let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

Oil to gas Ratio on chainsaw.

A:

I can see how this would be very useful information. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I was able to do some research on this unit. I was not able to find a 1.8cc engine on a craftsman chainsaw. Normally the ration is 50 to 1, however it can change with the engine size. I would double check this and reply, so we can find the right answer for you. Thank you.

Thank you for your question.

I have looked up the model number you have submitted. This saw requires a fuel mixture of 24:1. It neat to see these old tools still in use.

Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you for using Manage my life.
