Q:

Refrigerator not cooling MSD2657HEW Maytag Maytag refrigeration

A:

Thank you for your inquiry on your Maytag Refrigerator, Model: MSD2657HEW. From reviewing the details on your model, since you specifically mentioned you had frost accumulation within the freezer or on the freezer liner walls, I suspect you have a defrost issue occurring, which consequently, is preventing the diffuser from circulating the cool air into the refrigerator. The grinding noise you hear from the diffuser is more than likely being caused by it being frozen, and not operational. The defrost system on this model is comprised of three components: a defrost thermostat, heater, and an electronic control that acts as the timer. I would recommend using a volt meter to test the individual parts before ordering, as it could tie back to any of these items. To check these parts, the freezer has to be cleared, so the back panel can be removed. First disconnect power to the unit. With the panel off, you will see the evaporator coil with the element under it and the bi-metal attached to it, at the top. To check these parts, disconnect the wires so a continuity check can be done. This check has to be done, while there is still ice covering the bi-metal, to get an accurate check. Both of these parts should show a reading. If one doesn't it's defective. If you don't have a volt/ohm meter to make these checks or if you don't feel comfortable making these checks, then a technician will be needed.

The electronic board will be done in the same way; you will want to find a voltmeter with a continuity check feature. If you want to get more visuals of how to diagnose these components with a voltmeter, I would strongly urge you to go to YouTube and plug in to the search, Refrigerator Defrost Voltmeter Check and it will bring up some videos you can watch and see how to troubleshoot these items. I can add, usually the component that is at fault is the timer, which in this case would be the board, but it's always better to check and know for sure which part it is you need before you start spending money.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the refrigerator to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

If you don’t feel comfortable or confident in this repair, then you can have it repaired at home by a sears technician. I have the included a link to the website: Sears Home Services or call 1-800-469-4663.

Q:

msd2657hew control board MSD2657HEW Maytag Maytag refrigeration

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you’re having with the refrigerator control. I know how frustrating issues like this can be.

This will normally indicate the control board has failed. Sometimes resetting the control may help correct this problem. To reset the control, disconnect the power for 3-5 minutes and then reconnect it. If the same problem still occurs, the control will more than likely need to be replaced. We recommend having a service technician involved with these types of repairs to ensure the board is tested and programmed correctly.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
