A:

Grilling season should not be this dangerous. The expert will appreciate the description and video. While you wait for the expert to review and respond, you might take a look at a similar question and expert response from a previous post. I attached the link below. Hope you can get back to grilling soon.

Thank you for your question on the grill.

I would suggest removing the burner from the grill and clean the flash tube. It sounds like something has built a nest in the flash tube and is causing a gas flow problem.

If you would please give me the model number of the BBQ grill I will look into this further.

Please let me know what you have found, and we can continue our troubleshooting based on that.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Sam, thanks for your reply. Im pretty sure the grill is a Kenmore Elite 1167 Sq Inch Gas Grill Model # 25865-4F. I downloaded the manual and is says model number Model141.16678. The pcitures in this userguide look identical and I have the Propane tank model. Any advice on cleaning the "flash tube" would be great (Im not sure what that is). I did remove the entire ceramic infra-red element and the stainless steel box that supports it and I cleaned them, but this did not fix the problem.

Thank you for the update Paulos. The model you have given me is correct and on page 22 of the manual they show how to clean the burner flash tubes. If you have done this all ready with no better results I would be suspect of the burner valve not delivering the correct gas flow to the burner. Also make sure the primary air shutter is adjusted to get the correct amount of primary air for the burner combustion. This manufacture has a very good customer support team in Dallas Texas and if this does not solve your problem with the sear burner I would suggest you call them at 1-888-317-7642. They should be able to help you with this burner problem. Please have the 141 model number handy for the agent that answers the phone. Please let me know if they have some other suggestions as to why this burner is popping and going out. I will give you the cleaning page image from the manual. Sam A.

Thanks for all the Help Sam. Ill give cleaning a try, although on the infrared burner, the gas looks like it passes from the valve through a short tube and into a steel "box" under the ceramic element, not a burner tube like in the diagram you sent. So I suspect there may be some sort of blockage or incorrect operation of the vavle itself. How do you adjust the primary air shutter as you have suggested? By the way, all 5 of the normal bar like grill burners work fine. Its just the right hand most ceramic infrared Searzzler

Thank you for the update on the burner. The way you describe the problem is what they refer to as blow back. This is usually caused by some impediment of the gas flowing down the short tube to the burner head. If the gas begins to tumble instead of flowing freely it will cause the flame to burn in the tube instead of the burner head. There may be a slide air shutter on the end that mounts onto the burner valve orifice. It should have a screw that you can loosen that rotate the shutter for adjusting the primary air. Some models do not have those anymore. I guess it is possible that there could be something wrong in the valve itself but I do not think so. Please let me know what you have found. Sam A.

Paulos...hey how did you make out ?....I am having the same issues with my 3 year old Searzzler and now that I think of it I always needed to hold the dial in for at least a minute for the infra red searzzler to fully stay lit...I have the same model 1667 Elite and contacted the number that Sam A listed and they recommended to replace the Thermal Cuppling part #45...so I ordered it for about $34 and am awaiting delivery to see if it works the problem out...! I told them that I am a realist and didn't expect it to be remedied for free but If this is a factory defect inherent with this burner it needs to be looked at....have you researched to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue?

after watching your vid I realize your issue seems worse than mine...mine at least stays red so long as you keep the knob pushed in...then cuts off as soon as the knob is released....I am very disappointed because I always use the Searzzler and spent the Money after having crappy grills and after 3 years the best feature of this grill seems faulty....

Thank you gentlemen for the update. I will be interested when Paulos puts in the thermal coupler to see if that will help solve the problem with the searing burner. I hadn't heard of that fix before. If that works then maybe Steve can get his fixed that way also. Please let me know if it works. Sam A.
