Q:

Why won't my freezer maintain zero degrees?

A:

There can be a few reasons it won't maintain zero degrees.

  • The thermostat could be opening too soon
  • It may not be defrosting properly
  • The compressor may not be pumping properly
  • The seal system could have a low charge or restriction
  • The compressor could be overheating and quitting
If the unit is running all the time and not shutting off, the problem will probably be with the compressor or seal system. This will require a technician to check. If the unit is cycling off, I would suspect the thermostat is the problem and may need to be set to a colder setting. If it already is at the coldest setting, then the thermostat will need to be replaced. If you notice a heavy frost build up on the back wall, the defrost system is not working.

If you need more assistance you can resubmit your question with more details.
