Q:

Why is there a foul smelling red fluid in my upright freezer drip pan?

A:

This question is seldom asked. I have included a link below that I'm not sure will apply to your situation. My thoughts are, being that it's smelly and red, could it be blood? I can think of no other fluid, within the unit, that would apply... I will forward your question and you should get an expert response within two business days. Until then, have a pleasant afternoon.

Hi,

Thank you for your question, and I would like to answer the question this way.

The brown substance you see will be from the insulation inside the cabinet. The insulation is sprayed inside the cabinet and the substance mixed in with the insulation, to help hold it in place is, what is leaking out. Sometimes it can leak out, if one of the cabinet seams is not completely sealed.

Another thing is that the unit has a leak in the Freon line and the Freon is leaking out and the stuff you see and smell is oil and the smell is similar to copper. If this is the case you will need a Sears Home Services technician out the repair the problem. I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please include more details in a reply to this entry below.
Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I can understand your concern. This model will probably have R12 freon in it. The model tag on the unit will have this information. However, to drain the freon will require a technician. The freon has to be captured and only a technician will have the proper equipment to do this. I'm listing a link you can access to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . Thank you for using Manage My Life.
