Question and Answers

Q:

Maytag refrigerator control panel lights are flashing and the ice door opens and closes constantly. How do I stop this?

A:

When an appliance doesn't work properly or gives out it can be very disappointing because you don't really know what is wrong with it or you might even have to buy a whole different appliance. A suggestion I have for you while you are waiting on your response from an expert. I found this great link on your appliances. I have attached the link below if you are interested in viewing while waiting on your response from an expert. Hope this helps, good luck

This is a known issue and to correct this problem, the control board will need to be replaced. Unfortunately, without a model number, I will not be able to give you any specific information. To get the correct board a complete model and serial number will be needed.

I had the exact same problem. When I called I was told it was not covered because my unit was 6 years old. I mention the recall I read about on this site and they said there were no recalls on my frig. When I pushed a little more they finally said they would cover it and set up a appointment. So if they tell you it's not cover hold your ground.

Mine started doing the exact same thing last night. I called Maytag today and she acted like she has never heard of the problem. My refrigerator is only a little over 2 years old. She said my particular model has not had this problem. I told her apparently this is a ongoing problem with any Maytag with the electronic panel. All she kept offering is for me to buy additional warranty for $360!!!! Unbelievable.... I was finally so disgusted I hung up. I will NEVER buy another Maytag appliance. There customer service I experienced today was the worst ever!!!!! Nothing like spending more for the Maytag name and having problems with a $2000 plus appliance in such a short period of time and they do absolutely NOTHING about it.

Q:

Amana refrigerator with french doors with bottom freezer drawer lights flashing and ice dispencer opening and closing? Model AFI2538AEW serial 12563714LR

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your refrigerator. Upon researching model AFI2538AEW; it sounds like the control board in back of the control panel may have failed. The control board governs the functions of the dispenser it can also control the temperature settings, so when it fails the dispenser and the temperature settings can become unresponsive. I have posted a link of the control board for the dispenser to view the link click here.

I trust this information will help you, have a great day.

Q:

Water on floor AFI2538AES Amana Amana refrigerator

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your refrigerator and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number afi2538aes the drain tube being clog with ice or debris is a common issue for refrigerators. You do from time to time have to clear it out. To clean the drain, remove everything out of the freezer so the back panel can be removed. With the panel out, you can use a hair dryer to remove the ice, just be careful not to get it too hot. With the ice removed under the evaporator, you will be able to see the drain hole. Hot water will be needed to clear the drain hole. Keep working the hot water into the hole and wiping the excess water. This can take quite a while, depending on how deep the ice is. This will need to be done until you get a good water flow down to the bottom drain pan. With the drain system clear, water should stop leaking in the refrigerator. If the drain constantly freezes up after this you can purchase a heating probe for the drain. The heat probe transfers some heat from the heating element to the drain, which will help prevent it from icing up. The heat probe kit is part number 819043. The kit will come with installation instructions. You will need to remove the rear panel item 1 and access the drain pan. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.
