Q:

I need to fix the ice maker on a kenmore refrig model# 25378832791. I removed the water valve (part # 5303917098). How do I confirm if the valve is the problem?

A:

When an appliance doesn't work properly or gives out it can be very disappointing because you don't really know what is wrong with it or you might even have to buy a whole different appliance. A suggestion I have for you while you are waiting on your response from an expert is visiting the SearsHomeServices.com website to set service with the team. I have attached the link below if you are interested in viewing while waiting on your response from an expert. Hope this helps, good luck

The best way to determine if the water valve is the problem will be to energize it. A good check will be, to manually cycle the icemaker and toward the end of the cycle, it should energize the water valve. To cycle this icemaker, pull the front cover off and turn the small gear in front ccw (see picture). The icemaker should start and run through a cycle now. Towards the end of the cycle, if you can hear a humming noise but no water flows to the icemaker, the water valve will need to be replaced. If water does flow, the icemaker will need to be replaced. If nothing at all happens, some voltage checks will need to be made. A technician may be needed to make these checks. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you need more assistance, additional details will be needed.
