Question and Answers

Q:

what temperature should the refrigerator be?

A:

It certainly is a concern when the fridge is not cooling. I found some information at My Sears Community talking about moving a refrigerator and problems that resulted. It may give you some insight while you wait for the expert answer. I also attached the link to the manual for your model. Hope this helps!

Sorry, but your attachments do not help me. The first attachment is a freezer issue and the second attachment is only an installation guide. I have a refrigerator issue as explained in my question above. Thanks for your help.

The temperatures in a refrigerator should be from 0 to 5 degrees in the freezer and 36 to 40 in the fridge section. If the temperature is this warm in the refrigerator, first check the temperature in the freezer. If it's not getting cold enough, the fridge section won't cool properly either. To make these temperature checks, place a thermometer between some packages. Air temperature is not a good check. If the freezer is too warm and everything is running, it would indicate a problem in the seal system or with the compressor. It could be a low charge, a restriction or the compressor may not be pumping properly. A technician will be required to make these checks. If the freezer temperature is ok, then this will probably be an air flow problem. The damper may be closed or the return air vent may be restricted. Also check to make sure the light in the fridge section is going out when the door is closed. If it stays on, the refrigerator will not cool good. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you would like more assistance, additional details will be needed.

Q:

The freezer in my Kenmore refrigerator 253.7419240B, is working but the refrigerator does not get cold enough. what is wrong?

A:

Core Issue: Kenmore refrigerator model number 253.7419240B, freezer section is cooling and refrigerator is not getting cold enough.

I have attached a list below of possible causes for refrigerator not to cool while freezer is cooling properly, please review and make necessary adjustments.

These can apply to both refrigerators and freezers:

  1. Control Setting – Look at the dial and make necessary adjustments.
  2. Vent being blocked – Air flows between the freezer and refrigerator sections to provide proper cooling via air vents. Move any food items that might block the vents.
  3. Warm air getting in – If doors are being left open, opened frequently, or if there are poor seals around the door(s). Also food stored in the door of the refrigerator often stays warmer than food in the interior.
  4. Low surrounding temperature – If the unit is in a cold environment such as an unheated garage, basement or outdoors, this may affect the thermostat.
  5. Condenser coil is dirty – When the condenser coil is dirty it causes the sealed system to overheat and therefore the refrigerator will not cool properly. Locate coil at bottom of refrigerator and clean if necessary. ( Caution: Unplug refrigerator and use gloves when cleaning )

Note: General information for resolution of problem is based on information that was submitted with question. Please contact a certified technician if problem persist. Sears Repair Department 1-800-469-4663
