I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your refrigerator. When the refrigerator stops cooling but the freezer is working, this will indicated that there is an issue with the air flow. In order for the refrigerator to cool properly, the air is circulated from the freezer. Open the freezer door and make sure the fan is working. That is the source of cooling for the refrigerator. The back of the freezer may be full of ice blocking the air. To check this you need to unplug the refrigerator. Next, remove all the food in the freezer.

Now you need to remove the screws holding the back panels in place. Remove the back panel. If there is a lot of frost and ice on the evaporator you found the problem. You need to melt all the ice with a heat gun. Next, dry it off once all the ice is out of there. You can put it back together and it will cool properly, however, it is not fixed. It will work properly up to 3 weeks then the ice will be back. One of the component's in the defrost system has failed. They are the defrost heater, thermostat and the timer. You will need a multimeter to help you determine which part needs to be replaced.

While you have the back of the freezer open, I would suggest you make sure the fan is running. If it is not then you will need to check to make sure the fan has the proper voltage. For this you will need a multimeter and you will be looking for 120 VAC. If you are not getting this, replace the fan motor. If you don't feel comfortable doing this test, then I would recommend that you schedule service. Just click on this link to schedule: Sears Home Services . I hope this helps.
