Question and Answers

Q:

The refrigerator door won't close properly; hits light switch. The door seems to have slipped down.

A:

I found it very easy and simple by going to Manage My Life and clicking on the Manual button, then put the model number in. There are some troubleshooting suggestions that might be helpful to you. I attached the link below. I hope this helps!!

Thanks for your answer but there isn't anything in the troubleshoooting section that addresses this issue. I saw the section about reversing the way the door opens and I wonder if the shim has worn out but when the refirgerator isn't even 3 years old and there isn't high traffic with it or heavy objects on the door I can't imagine that would happen. The hinges seem tight so what could it be?

Unfortunately, without a model number I will not be able to give you any specific information. Most of the time, leveling the cabinet will also adjust and correct a door problem. Check and adjust the cabinet first, if it's not level. Some models have hinges for a sagging door problem, if leveling the cabinet does not correct it. For more specific information a complete model number will be needed.

Thank you for your response, Scott. The complete model # is 253.69242704; the refrigerator is less than 3 years old. I had the leveling of the door / refrig checked and it fits what the directions in the manual say. All the bolts/screws on the door hinges are tight. The door moves up and down slightly on a pin type thing at the bottom and has a plastic washer or shim there. All of this looks to be in good shape. However, for some reason the door is no longer up where it belongs to close properly and to hit the light switch correctly. The door has never had heavy items in it so I don't know what has caused this.

My fridge is doing the same thing. The door just all the sudden fell off and now doesn't line up properly. The top pin seems fine, the bottom one doesn't seem to lift the door high enough to close. The model number is 253.69244704 which I cannot even find on managemylife.com

I am having the same problem... I was about to replace this fridge that came with the house because I thought it was old... the door has been broken the whole time.. just looked at the sticker inside and it says manufactured in may 07. We were told the fridge was new when we bought the house but it was hard to believe because of the door and some bumps and bruises (probably a discount model). kenmore 253.7923270
