Q:

Excess moisture in refrigerator compartment

A:

Excess moisture or ice in the fridge food compartment can ruin certain foods and eventually affect the operating temperature. I found a previous expert post that provides answers to some general causes. If you have the m odel number handy and can add it to this thread, it will help the expert to provide a better answer for your fridge. I attached the link below. I understand your concern. Unfortunately, without a model number, I will not be able to provide any specific information. However, excess moisture is usually from a poor door seal, the door not closing good or kept open for long periods of time. Check the door gasket for gaps. If there are some gaps, you can use a hair dryer to smooth them out. Just be careful not to get the gasket to hot and melt it. If the gasket is torn, it will need to be replaced. If you would like more assistance, a complete model and serial number will be needed. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Check the door and seal per the information already listed. This model also has a higher speed evaporator fan motor # 4389142 that will also help correct an excessive moisture condition. This motor is available at www.searspartsdirect.com. There will be a new fan blade that comes with this motor but do not use it. Use the original blade. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Q:

I have excessive condensation/moisture in my Kenmore refrigerator model number 25367889504. What can I do?

A:

Core issue: Excessive condensation/moisture in a Kenmore refrigerator model number 25367889504.

Resolution: This could be caused by frequent, excessive refrigerator door openings. This allows warm moist air to enter forming dew on walls, ceiling and food products. This problem is more prevalent during the summer when the temperature and humidity levels are the highest. To reduce amount of dew (water droplets) forming in refrigerator, avoid frequent, prolonged door openings, especially during hot humid weather. Use of air conditioning helps lower humidity levels in the room air.

Refrigerator doors that do not seal well allow warm, moist air to leak into the fresh food compartment. This moisture can condense on interior surfaces and will freeze around cold air vents. Possible causes for a poor seal are as follows:

  • Foreign objects caught in the door
  • Bulky food or packaging prevents door from closing completely
  • Door gaskets torn or sticky
  • Door left open too long
  • Door being opened too frequently

Putting foods that are still hot or warm inside refrigerator will also cause condensation.

Note: General information for resolution to this problem, is based on information provided in question. Contact certified technician if problem persist. Sears repair 1-800-469-4663.
