Q:

Fan motor 2536179910D Kenmore Top-mount refrigerator

A:

Thank you for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

The best thing that could occur before removing the existing fan motor would be to take a picture of the setup before disassembly, that way there is no confusion when you go to reassemble.

However, for this condenser fan motor, it mounts to the fan motor bracket by two screws and points away from the compressor towards the condenser coils. The fan will push air across the condenser coils to remove the heat.

For visual reference, I have attached a copy of the parts explosion for this model so you can see how everything relates and goes together, hopefully this will help. I have attached the visual as an attachment, if you don't see it, just click here to view this response on ManageMyLife.com to see the attachment.

I have also included a blue link below that you may click on to be directed to the PartsDirect site to view and purchase the condenser fan motor if needed. It may be a good idea to pick up a new fan blade as well as they can become brittle with age and there is a possibility they can become damaged by pulling off the original fan motor during installation.

Unable to mount the motor on the fan bracket due to the hub of the motor. The hub protrudes beyond the height of the screw heads preventing the motor to sit flat against the mounting bracket. How can the motor P/N 241696606 be installed?

Hello Mohammad, thanks for the response. In regards to the screws not being long enough, do you think you could just purchase longer screws to make the motor connect up to the fan shroud? That would be the easiest solution. You may even be able to make a support bracket for it if replacing the screws doesn't seem logical. The worst case scenario is purchasing a new fan shroud for that replacement motor, but I would see the need for that if you can fabricate something in place or use longer screws.

The issue your running into is that the fan motor had been discontinued and substituted by the manufacturer. So the one you received is for a newer unit and the fan shroud you have is not 100% compatible it appears. I would look at longer screws or get some metal straps and try to fabricate a support to the new fan motor. If those don't seem to work, then a replacement shroud will be the next best thing. The shroud made for that fan motor is part # 241935602.

Hopefully this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Thank you, but the problem is that the configuration of the mounting holes on the replacement motor is different than the old motor. In that, the old motor has two stand-offs that sit on the bracket. The new motor does not have the stand-off and the screws will not sit flat on the mounting bracket due to the hub that is protruding beyond the height of screw heads. HOW CAN THIS MOTOR BE INSTALLED

Okay, I see what you mean, the details of your first inquiry were vague and those details were left out, otherwise I would have been more precise in my response.

With the substitution occurring, the condenser motor is different than the original, as you see. This model of refrigerator is more than 10 years old at this point, so that isn't too uncommon. It appears the manufacturer has substituted both the motor and the fan blade, but the condensor mounting bracket has not been substituted and is no longer available.

You have two options here, you can fabricate the mounting for the original by using longer screws/spacers for the difference or fabricate new mounts or you can purchase the shroud this substituted condenser works with. The part number I located for the shroud that the new condenser motor goes to is 241935602. My only concern however is whether the new shroud will fit into the existing set-up you have, however, that shroud is made for that particular fan motor.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the installation/repair, click here to be directed to the page to set up service.
