Question and Answers

Q:

hi my freezer and freg in not getting cold. i replace the defrost thermostat and defrost timer. where dose the thermostate sit on the first tub or the second 25359482990 Kenmore Side by side refri...

A:

I will be happy to help with your refrigerator. Upon researching model 25359482990; the defrost timer and thermostat is just for defrosting the freezer. It could be the temperature control is not functioning. If the compressor is not turning on it could be the starter/run capacitor or overload protector is burned out. I linked 2 diagrams below. The thermostat is number 21. The overload is number 31, the starter is number 30 and the run capacitor is number 55.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

Q:

Freezer Door Insulation 25359482990 Kenmore Side by side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The insulation in your door is nothing more than fiberglass insulation. The fiberglass should be approximately 2 1/2 inches thick and as wide as the door.

Do not attempt to use expansion foam. It would be too hard to try to spray a coat and control the expansion/thickness not to mention the mess it can make. Manufactures uses a spray in foam process on some doors but they have it down to a science, use fiberglass insulation instead.

Do not purchase any fiberglass insulation with the paper backing. Purchase fiberglass insulation without the paper backing. Any fiberglass insulation used for in the walls of houses is perfect. About the model number on the inside of your refrigerator, the model number does not appear to be a valid model number. You may have mis-read it or the model number on the model number tag is wrong.

I hope this information was helpful.

I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your refrigerator. I am assuming, based on your description that the leak is coming from the filter area. If this is the case then it is most likely that the filter housing is leaking. This can reduce the pressure going to the ice maker, which will prevent it from making any. Remove the grill from the bottom of the refrigerator, and look at the housing. If you are seeing the leak, then replace the housing. If the leak is coming from a different area, please reply with this information. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Hi, I found out where the leak was coming from, actually the water hose from the rear connected to the ice cube maker section was loose. I reconnected it. To go thru the process of elimination, I didn't use any water filter and put the ice maker to the down/on position. Water leaks from the water filter area and still not makeing ice. I put the water filter back in and put the ice maker to the down/on position. Its still not making any ice, water still leaking from the filter, and the tube that was loose from the rear that I reconnected is leaking. Its connected, but is leaking from where I tighened it. I am thinking it could be the filter that is causing all the issues? Even though it was new out of the box, I hadn't used since it was purchased in 2007 when I got 2 from the box. One was used back in 2007 and now I was trying to use the 2nd one out of the box. Do you think I need to buy a new filter & use it right away when I get it this time? Or its another issue? Never had these problems before in the past btw.

also, do I need to have filter in there for the fridge to make ice? If I don't, does the filter cup (w/out the filter) need to at least be connected?

Just to clarify, it sounds like whether the filter is there or not, the water filter area is leaking. This is an issue with the housing itself not the filter and you will need to replace it. Please let me know if you need anything else.

replacing the houseing, you think that will also stop the leak that is coming from the back of the fridge water tube going to the ice maker, which will hopefully start making ice again? I closed the filter cup w/out the filter and the problem didn't change, still leaking from the filter area, water tube in the back of the fridge that is connected to the ice maker still leaking and still no ice being made.

The filter housing is building pressure inside of it. This is what keeps loosening the water tube. If you remove the filter, you will reduce the pressure inside the housing and the water tube. This will keep the tube from pull out of the connection and it will stop leaking. You do not need a filter in place for the ice maker to work, but I would suggest that you defrost the fill tube that coming thru the back of the refrigerator. You can do this with a hair dryer set to low. Just be careful not to melt the tube. Please let me know if you need anything else.

Hi, that makes sense, thank you! But leaving the water filter & filter cup out, the filter area still leaks & I am still not getting any ice being made. Do you feel that I need to replace the filter housing and just get a new filter to remedy both problems? Not sure why the ice is not being made?

A:

You need to replace the housing first. What is happening, is when the filter is in place blocks the water from leaving the housing. The water valve is opening and closing for the ice maker, but very little water is getting through. When you remove the filter the pressure drops, which means is takes longer for the water to get to the ice maker. But the more the housing leak, the less pressure the line has. Once the housing is replace the pressure will go back to normal. Please let me know if you need anything else.
