Thank you for submitting your question. I understand your concern and I will be happy to assist you. The issue you're experiencing will either be with the ice maker itself or the water vavle even through the water dispenser is working. The signal between the ice maker and water valve might be lost due to the ice maker itself or the valve. Here is a great troubleshooting video for the issue you're experiencing. You will need an ohms/volt meter for the testing in the video to help you determine which part to replace. You can order parts from our Sears Parts Direct web site. I hope this helps. Please reply back to this thread if you require further assistance. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Thank you Tykara. The video was helpful, and gave me some ideas on diagnosing the problem, but my diagnosis was wrong. The ice maker I have does not have the test holes shown on t he video. So I was not able to troubleshoot as described in the video. But it got me thinking, and I pulled the frig out and tested the water valve. I thought that was it, because there was no continuity between any of the four electrical connections (voltage meter read 1 when I touched each of the connections). So I went out an bought a new water valve. Installed it, but still no water going to the ice maker. Any ideas?

Q:

refrigerator: no water out after two cups from water dispenser

A:

It can be very upsetting when no water will dispense after replacing the water filter on your refrigerator. I did some research and provided a link to a similar question and answer on our site. I hope this will give you a better idea on the next step to take until the Expert responds to your question in more detail within 24 to 48 hours.

Thanks for the inquiry about water flow on your refrigerator, I will be glad to assist you with this.
Based on your description that water is stopping when filter is changed or removed here is my suggestion. Any time there is an interruption of the water supply at the filter connection it will allow air into the system. This air will interrupt the water flow until the air has been removed by purging the water system. To purge water system just call for water in 15 second intervals until at least 2 gallons of water has been removed through the dispenser. Once all the air has been purged out, your dispenser should work okay
I hope this will help you solve this issue, should you need additional assistance please reply with more details and I will be happy to respond.

Thanks Ron H.

It's me again.........last night i defrosted the freezer again- it didn't take long as the frosting was minimal. After 12 hours, the tempa are freezer = (-2) and fridge = (38)....with both set to "coldest". This would be acceptable if it held - last time it didn't hold and the fridge side went up to nearly room temperature.(see original posting above).

The defrost timer on this model is located on the lower left front corner of the refrigerator as shown in the parts drawing that I provided in the image below.

You may need to remove the bottom front grill to access that timer. If you manually advance that timer, you can check the defrost heater and bi-metal defrost termination thermostat. Here is a link for a video that shows how the automatic defrost system components work in a refrigerator: Refrigerator Not Cooling Repair . That video may help you determine which component in that defrost system is not working. If you manually advance the defrost timer until the compressor stops (open the refrigerator door until the compressor starts running before advancing the timer if necessary), you can check to see if the evaporator heater is working. If not, you could have a bad heating element, an open defrost bi-metal termination thermostat, a bad defrost timer or a wiring failure in that circuit. If the heater works, but the timer does not advance out of the defrost mode, then the timer will need to be replaced. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website if necessary. Unplug the refrigerator before accessing and replacing internal components.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you get to a point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule one through this link: Sears Home Services .
