Thank you for submitting your question. If the coils are freezing up, you're experiencing a defrost issue. The defrost system on this unit consist of the defrost timer, thermostat, and heater. You can manually cycle the timer and then test the thermostat and heater with an ohms meter. The heater and thermostat are located behind the freezer interior wall. You'll need to remove the wall to access these parts. The timer is located at the bottom of the cabinet, on left side behind the grill (key #23). By turning the knob on the defrost timer, it will advance into a defrost cycle and if the element comes on (you should here hissing), the timer will need to be replaced. Here's the part information:

  • Defrost Timer 215846602 priced at $32.33
  • Defrost Heater 218169802 priced at $57.11
  • Defrost Thermostat 5303917954 priced at $18.10
You can order all parts from our Sears Parts Direct web site. I hope this information helps. If you do not feel comfortable performing test or repairing this problem yourself, I recommend scheduling for service. You can schedule for service online with our Sears Home Services team. Thank you for choosing Manage My Life.
