My Kenmore refrigerator 253.56293404 wont stop making ice. I have to turn off the ice maker everytime it fills up.

A:

For troubleshooting information you can always refer back to your owners manual. If you do not have yours a handy thing about the Manage My Life website is you can go onto the top of the Manage My Life website and click on the tab button then insert your model number into the search box. I have attached a link below which includes your owners manual. I hope the link that I have provided you is useful. http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/4785/KENMORE-Side-by-Side-Refrigerator-L0404327?brand_name_search=253.56293404+

I understand your concern, if the icemaker will not shut off. This could be a problem with the switch, the arm or the arm lever. I recommend replacing the complete icemaker # 5303918344. It would be more economical and much simpler. It's available at SearsPartsDirect . If you would like more assistance, additional details will be helpful. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Alina, nothing in the owners manual to help this problem. Scott, I can turn the ice maker off and on, that isn't a problem. It just overloads with ice when it's on. Any other suggestions?

This icemaker already shows to have an extender on the bail arm, so sometimes bending the arm downward slightly will help. Another possibility is to install a deflector on the bucket. There is a deflector # 240507202 that will mount on some buckets (see attached picture). It's designed for this type of problem. It's available at www.searspartsdirect.com. I hope this will help you.

Q:

My filter leaks on my side by side. Model # 253.56293404. I came home today to a fridge FULL of water!

A:

Without being there to inspect the water filter and base I will not be able to say where the leak could be emitting from. It may need a new water filter base that the water filter locks on to or it may just need new o-rings. The water line(s) could also be leaking. You could by-pass the built in water filter by installing a by-pass and then install an inline water filter on the incoming water supply line at the back of the refrigerator if you wanted to. I added an image from the Repair Clinic web site of the filter by-pass below. The part number of the filter by-pass is 241944302. You would simply remove the water filter and install the by-pass in its place. The original filter is part #9911 and the by-pass and/or filter can be ordered from Parts Direct . If replacing the water filter does stop the leak I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your water filter leak.
