Question and Answers

Q:

What can be causing low water pressure on my Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator?

A:

If you have your refrigerator connected to a Reverse Osmosis it will cause the water pressure to drop at times to a very low pressure. This will be normal as long as the refrigerator is connected to the Reverse Osmosis system. The water pressure itself could be low, the water pressure required for this unit is between 20 and 120 psi, with a recommended pressure of 30 psi. If the water supply connection is a saddle valve it can become clogged causing low pressure.

The water valve may defective; the flow washer inside it may be damaged. If this happens the valve will need to be replaced.

If you need additional assistance you can resubmit your question with more details.

The filter housing may be causing a restriction in the water flow. For this type of problem the housing will need to be replaced.

thank you Scott! do you have any pictures or instructions on how to check the water valve and washer? My filter is brand new and the water pressure from the line to the refrigerator is fine so it has to be something with the fridge itself

Q:

What can be causing low water pressure on my Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator?

A:

Since the water pressure returns to normal when the water filter is changed, this indicates that the drop in pressure is being caused by a clogged water filter. Although the filters that you have been buying should normally filter between 300 to 400 gallons depending on the exact brand and model, your specific water conditions may be clogging up the filter early. Keep in mind also that the ice maker fill water goes through the same filter.

If your water quality is good enough so that you don't need a filter, you can install an optional bypass cassette in the filter housing. Although your water will no longer be filtered, you will no longer face the decreases in water pressure every 2 to 3 months. This bypass is available online through the Sears PartsDirect website www.searspartsdirect.com . The part number is 240396701.

If you have not tried the current Frigidaire filter with stock number 099111, then you might give it a try. I provided a Sears.com link for this filter below.
