Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

WHy does my freezer freeze up and my fridge freezes food?

A:

Temperature control in both the refrigerator section and the freezer are critical to safe storage of food and produce. If both sides are freezing, it would be cause for concern. While you wait for the expert to review this model, I did locate two similar questions with answers that may help. I attached to the links below. I hope this helps before any food is ruined.

From the description I suspect the control thermostat is not functioning correctly. If there is a defrost problem the freezer will ice up but then the refrigerator section warms up from lack of air flow. If the air damper was bad then usually the freezer will not ice over. One thing to try first is to turn the control thermostat down to the coldest setting. The next day while running adjust the thermostat to a warmer setting and see if at some point the unit shuts the compressor off. If not then likely the temperature control board is at fault. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

With a new temperature control board I suspect the diffusers are the problem. The image below may be helpful to you. One problem with cheking this kind of problem is that any change in the control takes 24 hours to so up. Try both controls at setting 1 and see if there is any improvement. The refrigerator control should shut the damper to reduce the amount of cold air from the freezer. Try the 1 setting on both controls and see if there is any change.
