Question and Answers

Q:

What would cause the fresh food section to be to warm?

A:

The fresh food section gets all its cold air from the freezer side. The freezer fan draws air up from the bottom rear panel in the freezer and across and through the evaporator coils and up into the top of the freezer and a percentage of the air is routed through the divider wall and over into the fresh food section.

Most likely you have a lack of airflow over into the fresh food section causing the warm fresh food section. The lack of airflow could be caused by a failure in the defrost system or the air flow control located in the divider between the freezer and fresh food section.

If you have had the fresh food control turned up to the coldest setting, over time it could cause a frost or ice blockage at the divider wall where the cold air is blown into the fresh food section too.

If you look at the rear panel inside the freezer and notice any frost or ice accumulating that would indicate a defrost failure which can cause the lack of air flow to the fresh food section. The defrost failure could be caused by an electronic defrost control board, failed heating element or a failed defrost termination switch.

This type of symptom will require a technician to diagnose and repair your refrigerator.
