Thanks Julio. I checked it out but the response was that it could be the housing for the filter but when I put the old filter back in it works fine and does not pop out, just would not want to drink the water......

Thanks for contacting manage my life about your refrigerator filter; sorry you are having a problem. Based on the description you have provided I would suggest installing the old filter back, if it stays in okay then there may be a defect with the new filter. If you need more help please reply with the model number off your refrigerator and I will be happy to verify the part number and respond. I can also research for any known issues concerning the filter and filter housing.   If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.Ron H.

I have Kenmore refrigerator model 253.55679400. I'm trying to replace my water filter #9911 (D46 M9911). The new water filter seats snugly into the housing, however, whenever I try to dispense water, the new water filter pops out of the housing. I've exchanged this filter at Sears twice already. This is the 3rd new filter that I've tried, each with the same result (flys out across the kitchen). We continue to use our old water filter which stays in place. I've looked on the Internet and Pure Source 2 water filters seem to have this issue too. It looks like model #9911. One solution I came across was to bend the steel tabs in the back of the refrigerator housing closer together. I really don't want to mess with the housing as my old water filter works just fine. The only noticeable difference between the old and the new water filter is an extra piece of plastic on the slanted horizontal plastic "bar" that runs across the middle of the filter. The slanted horizontal bar on the filter looks like the roof of a house. On the old filter the plastic piece only extends from the tip of the roof to the edge of the roof, where as, on the new filter, there is an extra piece that extends down to the "ground" on both sides of the roof. I'm not suggesting that this little piece of plastic is causing issues - just that it's the only noticeable difference between the 2 filters. (at least on the outside). Is there some kind of manufacturing issue with these new filters? Any recalls? Can I still get the "older" version of the water filter, because I'm not having any luck with these new ones. Thanks, - Martin

I am having the same problem with my filter and refrigerator. What am I supposed to do? The old filter is used up and I just bought 6 of the new ones because I don't live near a Sears. Do I need to buy a new refrigerator in order to get filtered water?

Hello lori, sorry you are having this issue with the filter, try this. Look under the housing assembly, there should be a screw or two that support the housing, loosen the screws (dont take them out) install the new filter being sure it snaps into the locking tabs. Once you have the filter in correctly retighten the screws on the housing. It has been reported by some techs in the field that the housing just needs this realignment for the new filter to stay in place. Ron H.

Any update on this? I have not tried a new water filter since the last 3 that I tried in the summer kept popping out. Seems like a lot of other people are having the same issue. (see link - I don't know why the link topic is about a vacuum cleaner when the conversation is about water filters, but whatever). Does Sears acknowledge a problem? What is the resolution? Current water filter is going on a year. I'd like to replace it some time.
