Question and Answers

What's the problem with the ice dispenser?

It will probably be a problem with the cube solenoid but it could be due to the solenoid, not receiving any voltage. This normally happens because the solenoid freezes and won't move. This solenoid controls a gate that has to open, to allow the cubes to fall, before they get to the crusher blades. The solenoid can frost up, if the freezer gets too cold (below zero) or from moisture. If the icemaker is mounted on the side wall, there is a new rear cover # 241577302 that will help keep the solenoid from freezing. This cover will have holes in it, for additional ventilation. It's available at SearsPartsDirect . If the icemaker is mounted on the back wall, check the temperature and the door gasket to make sure it's sealing ok.

This can also be a voltage problem. If the solenoid doesn't receive the voltage to it, when cubes are selected, it won't open the gate. You can check the connection under the top door hinge cover for a loose wire. Remove the top freezer door hinge cover and check the purple wire in the connector. Be sure to disconnect power to the unit before checking the wire connection. If the wires and connection look ok, some voltage checks will need to be made. A technician may be needed to make these checks. If you need more assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details.
