Q:

Does my model ice-maker have a thermal switch?

A:

This icemaker does have a thermostat that has to close to cycle the icemaker. If the icemaker is not cycling at all, the thermostat could be the problem. If it is cycling but not filling, then it can be the water switch in the icemaker, a defective diode or the water valve. However, if the icemaker has been replaced with the part listed, then that could be the problem. Although the icemaker itself will look almost the same and the wire harness will probably connect with the harness in it now, the internal wires will not be the same. The icemaker needed for this model is # 5303918344. To check if the icemaker is the problem, first disconnect power to the unit. Now you can place a well insulated jumper between, the yellow and black wires in the icemaker harness connector. Reconnect the power and water should flow to the icemaker. If water does flow, the icemaker will need to be replaced. If no water flows but you can hear a humming noise, the water valve # 240531101 will need to be replaced. If nothing at all happens, the diode # 5303918287 may have failed but some voltage checks will need to be made. Checking the diode can be difficult and I recommend having a tech make this check. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you need more assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details.

Safety Notice: Be sure to disconnect the appliance before performing any troubleshooting procedures. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks or repairs that might be recommended, please contact a local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.
