Q:

Water Valve Connections Incorrect on Replacement 25353713301 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing sears I would be happy to help you with your refrigerator. Upon researching model 25353713301; The 241734302 valve is the correct valve for this particular refrigerator.

The original valve used a nut with compression fitting.  The 241734302 valve does not require the nut or compression fitting.  This valve uses a quick connect system to connect the hoses to the valve.

Note position and color of wire connectors to solenoid before removing.  Also note the position of each hose and which valve it goes to before removing.

Caution: Before attempting any repair, unplug the unit from the wall.

Carefully use a razor blade to cleanly cut the plastic hose straight across.  The hose should slip into the valve opening and lock in place by the O-ring.  You can mark the hose after cutting it.  It should insert into the valve about 11/16 on an inch to lock in place. I have posted a link below that may be helpful.

I trust that this information will help you, thank you have a great day.

Q:

Have a leak which apparently originates somewhere on lower backside of ref section. Water line and ice filler lines appear to be leak free. 25353713301 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about your Kenmore Refrigerator. I am so sorry to hear it is leaking. I know small leaks have the potential to become large leaks so I am sure you would like to get this corrected as soon as possible. I will be happy to help you with this. I have included the link for you to view the parts diagrams for your refrigerator online. This will help you locate the parts I will reference.

Parts Diagrams for Kenmore Refrigerator Model 25353713301.

To better assist you, I will need some clarification. You question didn't indicate if the leak was on the inside or outside of the refrigerator. If it is in the refrigerator section, then it sounds like you may have a leak in the water tank assembly which is a coiled tube on the back wall of the refrigerator section. For the water tank please look at key 97 on the Shelves diagram. I have included the link to order the tank in case that is the issue.

If the leaking is from the back of the water filter assembly, please look at the parts on the Controls diagram. Drips from this area means you may have a cracked part in the housing. An old, clogged filter may also cause a leak. If it has been a while since you replaced the filter, I recommend changing it to see if it resolves the issue. The filter should be changed at least once every 6 months. I have included that link for you.

If the leak is on the outside of the refrigerator, then I would recommend checking the water valve. If a portion of it has failed and froae in the open position, you may get a leak where the water line attaches to the valve. Although the valve is attached to the outside of the refrigerator, down at the back base of the fridge, the part is shown on the Icemaker diagram (key 55). I have included that link for you also.

Water Valve for Refrigerator Model 25353713301.

If the leak is under the refrigerator, I recommend checking the drain hose and drain pan. (Please see keys 26 and 84 on the System diagram.) If those are clogged or damaged they should be replaced. I have included those links for you also.

Hopefully one of these parts will reveal where the leak is located. If you need further assistance, please respond to this thread. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

A:

Linda, thank you for your reply. For clarification, the leak is located on the underside of the unit near the compressor, in fact, when the water solenoid is actuated by the ice maker or water dispenser, water SPRAYS out from beneath the refrigerator and it looks like it is coming from the compressor, which can't be since that is a sealed system and does not have any water in i it. I THINK the water is coming from one of the 2 lines on that side of the unit which feed/return water from the chilled water coil in the back of the refrigerator section. However, since I cannot locate the water coil, or a schematic and parts list for the inside of the cabinet I can't really tell where the leak might be. None of your links is any help, as I had already found and looked at them before asking my question. The water valve connections and ice maker lines are not leaking and the pan is dry. The leak only occurs when the water vale is actuated to fill the ice maker or a water glass. Leak is on the right side in area of compressor and only occurs when water valve is actuated. Unit does not leak otherwise.
