Question and Answers

Q:

Fridge Filter 469911

A:

Constantly replacing water filters would be a concern. Getting the right filter is important to fitting correctly on the refrigerator. If you can add the refrigerator model number to this thread it will help the expert answer both of these concerns. The refrigerator model number can also be used at the Sears Parts Direct link below to verify the correct part number. I hope the expert can solve this annoying mystery for you.

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern. If the filters are cracking, I recommend having the water pressure checked. The pressure should be 30 to 40 psi. I'm also attaching a picture of this filter. I hope this will help you. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I have had the same problem and I can shed more light on it. I thought the filters were cracking initially too, but that's not it. The housing is ridiculously over-engineered and near indestructible perhaps because the company thought it was cracking at some point in the past when leaks occurred -- try cracking a used on on the sidewalk with everything you've got. The leak that keeps happening a couple of months after the filter is replaced is due to the expansion and degradation of the four o-ring seals mounted on the filters. Compare new and old when putting in the new filter. They don't like giving out the part number for the o-ring, which comes in a single pack for around $4.50 each and is really hard to find in stock. It is ingenious really. They sell you another $40 retail filter every two months instead of nine or your fridge turns into a lake or you lose the door water and ice maker. No consumers have the time or capability to debug it, and replacing the filter is so much easier in the short term. I've spent probably an extra $3-400 over the last two years, while calling the PureSource2 manufacturer and Frigidaire to complain the whole time. I've bought replacements from far away distributors and local shops -- and every batch has teh same flaw. They have a strong incentive NOT to fix the problem, and plenty of cover to claim ignorance and point at design partners. It is worthy of a class action suit only there's no way to find all the suckers out there struggling with this for the last years. Stockholder records are available. Direct purchased customer lists can be forced out of them. Stuff bought through thousands of little outlets and distributors have no trail. The best you can do is to broadcast your complaint on the web, with plenty of mention of the companies at fault. And sell the fridge to someone who doesn't want ice or water functions.
