Q:

Kenmore side by side refrigerator 253.51692103 Pink line under ice dispenser

A:

Thanks for the information about your refrigerator model 253.51692103, I will be glad to assist you. I have researched your model refrigerator and find no known problems matching your description of a pink line on the dispenser.  This type of issue is best resolved by a complete inspection of the dispenser and related components.  I know of nothing (components) that could cause this pink line.  I do know that the material used on the dispenser housing and door liners can satin if something is accidentally dripped on them or spilled, things with a tomato type base or some red dyes will cause a pink stain. However, a visual inspection would be needed to determine this. I would suggest that you look closely at the ice bucket and in the chute area for a source.  As for trying to remove the stain I would suggest citric acid crystals. Lemmon flavored Kool-Aid sugar free is a good cleaner for this, just mix with a cup of water and apply with a cloth.(test in an area non-conspicuous first) I hope this helps, if you need more help reply with added details and I will be happy to respond.       If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.Ron H.

A:

Simple maintenance should not cause other problems and that can be upsetting. I can understand how the two events seem connected, but since the water is flowing, allowing you to flush the dispenser line, I think this will be a different issue.  The information in the link provided by Marc is good.  I would add that a diode that controls the water valve that separates the water dispenser from the ice maker, may be at fault. Since the water dispenser is working I would suspect either the diode or water valve to be the problem. Try adding water to the ice trays to see if the ice maker will make ice cubes and harvest them manually. Once you have checked to  make sure the fill line to the ice maker is not frozen and the ice maker switch is on and the bale arm is in the down position, and the ice maker will harvest ice manually, it would be the valve. This is part#241734302 at Sears Parts Direct. See key#5 in image below. If the ice maker will not make cubes and harvest manually, the ice maker needs to be replaced. If further assistance is needed, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.
