I can understand your concern. The information you have received about the filter leaking is good. Unfortunately, without a model number, I will not be able to provide specific information. There are several different styles of filters. Sometimes by disconnecting the water tubing and reconnecting it, will stop the leak. For more assistance, a complete model number will be needed.

Refrigerator model # 253.44483703. When I asked the Sears sales people they admited no fault with the filter and that they had never heard of such a thing. Internet talk would indicate otherwise.

This has not been an issue with the filter or filter housing. If the filter housing is leaking, I recommend first replacing the o-rings # 240527001 inside the filter housing. If it still leaks, then the filter housing # 240396002 will need to be replaced. These parts are available at the link listed below. A technician may be needed to install these parts. I'm listing a link you can access to have a tech come out. I hope this will help you.

I had written this response a number of days ago but have not received any feedback. The below link is one of about 3 informational sources that indicated that this is a big problem which no one is willing to acknowledge responsibility for. It is hard to discount multiple sources that are experiencing my identical issue. Considering how new this appliance is, experimental repairs by a repairman and my money is not right. Sears must be aware!!!

I'm sorry you are having this problem. I have researched this again and there is no issue, on this type of problem. Sometimes this filter can leak if it's not pushed in far enough. There are some o rings inside the filter housing that may not be sealing tight and may need to be replaced, as stated previously. In this case I would also recommend replacing the filter. Just replacing the filter itself may also stop it from leaking. It's possible the filter housing may have a crack in it, which would require replacing. I recommend having a technician check this. If you feel this needs to be addressed and would like to talk with someone, here is a number you can call 8004795899. This is the National Customer Relations Department and someone there should be able to help you. I hope this will help you.

I also have a Sears Kenmore Elite side by side model #253.4448370 and the filter began leaking. Had a reliable appliance repair service I have used for many years look at it and put in a bypass because he said these filters are a known problem and Sears is refusing to do anything about it, so they are telling customers to replace at own risk and are no longing replacing the filters because Sears refuses to reimburse their business. The bypass stopped the leaking, but now the ice does not taste well. Sounds like Sears does not want to do anything about this and I cannot afford to replace the water filter every few weeks because they are too expensive.
