Q:

I would like to know if my Sears freezer, model 253.24042101 is equipped with "auto defrost" as opposed to "manual defrost"

A:

Understanding our appliances helps us to maintain and keep them running smoothly. I always keep the owner's manuals handy for this type of information. This site lets you access the manuals online whenever needed. I attached the link to your freezer manual in the link below. In future you can just click on the Manuals tab at the top of the page and enter the model number to view online, download to your computer or print. Hope this helps!

Your freezer is defrosted manually. In the owners manual this process is described on page 9. Basically the freezer will need to be emptied and shut down periodically for defrosting purposes. The time frame between defrosting can vary as the amount of ice build up will vary depending on humidity and door openings.

If you do not have access to your owner's manual you can go to the "manuals" section of our site and pull a copy with your model number.

I can understand your concern. I'm not showing this model to have a battery. If there is one, it will be located on the side of the bottom front grill (kickplate).

The buzzer is a temperature alarm. I suggest checking the temperature, to see if it's too high. The normal temperature should be between 0 - 5 degrees. The buzzer will sound at approx. 15 degrees. The best way to check the temperature is, to place a thermometer between some packages. Air temperature is not a good check. If the temperature is too high, adjusting the control to a colder setting may solve the problem. If the temperature is ok, the cold control (thermostat) # 297053902 will need to be replaced. This control also controls the buzzer. It's available at SearsPartsDirect . I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further.

Turned out to be the Compressor controller (RELAy) Funny how a Fourty year old freezer still runs without missing a beat? But the newer stuff seems to be engineered to fail right after the warrenty runs out ? Must be why those engineers make the Big Bucks?>
