Question and Answers

Q:

Chest freezer problems

A:

The temperature alarms are meant to alert us to a possible problem. It does help to have an owner's manual to interpret the alarm. I was able to locate a compatible manual and attached in the second link below. The first and third links may help answer your questions about the heat and why the alarm sounds. This information may help a bit while the expert reviews your model and responds with more specific help.

A:

If large quantities of warm food are added to the freezer it will cause the high temperature alarm to sound and the outer walls of the cabinet to get hot.

There are condenser coils attached to the outer walls of the freezer to dissipate the heat removed from the inside of the cabinet by the refrigerant. There are also condenser coils attached to the outside of the rear wall of the cabinet. Be sure the air can circulate around the cabinet.

You can get a copy of the owners manual by clicking on the "manuals" tab at the top of this page. Enter model 253.183 to get the manual. This manual covers upright and chest freezers and some sections don't apply to your freezer. The information you requested is in the manual.
