A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your freezer and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 253169649101 and it is possible that the temperature control has failed. The freezer has a couple of parts that may be the issue. Some freezers have a battery that needs replacing and will cause the freezer not to work. The battery is usually located where the temperature control is to the left side of the freezer. You can also check the controller on the compressor and make sure that it is turning on the compressor. Here is a link that will help further your troubleshooting. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

I know it's frustrating when the freezer stops working. If the light is coming on, it does indicate the voltage to it is ok. This would indicate that either the compressor or the thermostat has failed. Try turning the thermostat all the way off and back on. Sometimes, if the contact gets stuck, this will free it. However, the most likely problem will be with the compressor. A technician will need to make this check. I'm listing a link you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . I also strongly recommend connecting this or any freezer or refrigerator to a regular outlet. GFI outlets are not recommended to be used with any major appliance. I hope this will help you. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Hi. have a Kenmore 7.2 cubic feet chest freezer. I also have 2 rabbits who seem to have chewed on the power power cord. :-( The power light is on when the unit is plugged in, but the freezer is not working. I only noticed the chewed power cord when the freezer stopped working because I went behind the machine, so the power cord may have been like this for a while. Is it possible that the freezer isn't working properly even though the light is on when plugged in? Can the power be not enough to make the machine work? The freezer cost about $250. If the issue is the compressor or something else, do you think it's worth it to pay a technician repair it?

David, if the power light is on, it would indicate there is sufficient voltage to the freezer. If it's not cooling at all and if the compressor is running, it will lead to a problem in the sealed system. This type of repair would probably not be economical. If the compressor is not running, it could be a cold control problem, the starting device may have failed or it could be the compressor itself. The cold control or starting device would be worth repairing. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, please include the complete model number and I will be glad to assist you further.

Q:

what is wrong when the freezer light is on but it is not freezing? i don't hear a sound form my chest freezer.what can i do?

A:

Freezers that are out of commission with food defrosting is a real concern. I found a similar question from a previous expert post that may offer some solutions. The model number is a bit different than yours, but may help while you wait for the expert. I also added the owner's manual for the troubleshooting guide. I attached the links below. Hope this helps!

Plug a lamp or an appliance in the wall outlet for the freezer to be sure you have power.

If the outlet is good, tap the temperature control knob with a screwdriver handle. Sometimes the control will stick open. If this makes the freezer run, the thermostat should be replaced.

I recommend you go to http://services.sears.com/shs/category/repair?sid=MMLxexpertxmerch and get a Sears technician to diagnose the problem.
