Question and Answers

Q:

Why does my chest freeezer run constantly? 25316502102

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the unsteady temperature on the chest freezer. I know how frustrating that is to have happen.

I agree with your assumption; a defective temperature control could definitely cause this issue. That would be the most likely component that would cause the compressor to constantly run. A replacement should solve the issue.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Jeff, I did replace the temp controller (P/n 29716000). It did not remedy the issue. All symptoms are same as in my first inquiry. The compressor continues to run regardless of the controller setting. I can shut off the compressor by turning the controller knob to Off. If I reset the controller knob to 1 or 2, the compressor will restart withing a few minutes. Once this happens, it continues to run non stop. Turning down the controller knob will not affect the compressor unless turned to the Off position. Any other ideas?

Thank you for your effort but you apparently didn't really read my question. I know what the problem is, the freezer will not cycle off at all.... it was -10 when I realized what was wrong. I have been running it manually to keep it cold (on a timer). I need my original question answered. Kenmore Chest Freezer model number 25316502102 will not shut off. Thermostat has no effect. Model Number - 25316502102 I ordered a new thermostat from sears parts, number 216787700, and they were kind enough to expedite shipping. When it arrived I find it is NOT an exact replacement, but a substitution. The freezer modular plug will not plug into the new thermostat as the receiving pins are horizontal whereas the original pins are vertical! I can modify the modular plug by cutting it in half and using it that way. Is this the proper method or what should I do? There is no other replacement part and I have the freezer on a timer so many minutes on..so many minutes off. I don't think that's good for the compressor. What do I do? Is my idea of modification correct, will the freezer work that way? Thank you

I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your freezer. I do not recommend that you change any part of the freezer to fit this. When substitution like this happen, the part should install and work just like the old one. Since this is not the case, a new part will be need in order for this to work. I would suggest that you contact our parts department and have this submitted for research to see if there is another one with the vertical pins. Also for the timer, this should not damage the compressor. The unit will normally cycle on and off for certain periods of time as it is. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
