Question and Answers

Q:

chest freezer

A:

Oh no, what a terrible thing to come home to... I am of the opinion that you can give it a good, harsh cleaning. But in regards to filling the unit with bleach water, I would recommend waiting for the expert on that model to get back to you. You will probably hear from them within 2 days. Try to have a nice evening and I hope you had a great time on holiday.

harsh cleaning really didn't get everything out at all. So the only thing I can think of is that the bacteria are behind the panels, having gotten there through the folds in the sheet metal. By the way the model # is 253.16342101

Thank you for your question. I understand your concern about cleaning the freezer. I would not recommend filling it with bleach water. It would probably not be any more effective then a good cleaning, using warm water and some bleach or a mild detergent. It shouldnt but if some of the water were to leak into the insulation, it could cause it to freeze and create another problem. Now, its possible the insulation has absorbed the odor and it can be difficult to get out and sometimes it may not ever leave. A good method to help with this, will be to, place some charcoal inside the cabinet for a couple of days to absorb some of the odor and then place a small bowl of vanilla inside the cabinet for a couple of days. You can also get some odor rid # 8171398 to place inside the cabinet. It's available at http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/8171398/0046/106?pathTaken=directMatch&filterPart=&pop=flush&prst=0&shdPart=8171398&sid=MMLxexpertxmerch .

Q:

Can I get internal diagrams for my 16342 model chest freezer?

A:

It is a smart idea to understand the internal parts of your freezer before you start to drill holes in it. I would suggest providing the full and complete model number for your model to better assist the expert. Below I have attached a link to the Sears Parts Direct website where you can view the diagrams for your model. Just add in your complete model number. I hope this helps.

The full model number is 25316342101. It looks as though from the link you sent me that the condenser only runs through the back of the freezer. I just want to verify this. Thank you.

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern. There is no internal diagram showing the tubes but the condenser and evaporator will run all the way around the cabinet. The picture that you see, shows the picture of an external condenser that can be installed if the inside condenser develops a leak. I strongly advise not to drill any holes in the cabinet or some lines (evaporator) may be damaged and will not be repairable. I hope this will help you.
