Question and Answers

Q:

Why did my Kenmore freezer stop cooling?

A:

The first image below shows the wiring diagram for your freezer. If the fan is running but the compressor is not starting, you could have a bad start relay on the compressor (Key 30 in the second image). If you suspect that this is your failure, you can order this part from Sears PartsDirect [www.searspartsdirect.com]. The part number for the start relay is 216596800. NOTE: This part will substitute to new part number 530441285 on the Sears PartsDirect website. The cost of the part is $28.33 (not including tax, shipping and handling).

NOTE: Unplug the freezer to completely disconnect electrical power before accessing any internal components. If you are not completely confident that you can safely access and diagnose/repair this problem, call a service technician to fix the freezer.

There could be several other reasons for the freezer cooling problem. You could have a wiring problem or a bad compressor. I do not have enough details to accurately predict your failure. If you suspect a different failure, resubmit your question with additional details for more technical help.

My Kenmore is model # 253.13711100 purchased in 2003 and has run great until this event. When I plug it back in, there's nothing happening - no clicking sounds or anything so I suspect something electrical has failed. Is there a fuse or reset button? The label indicates a 5A-115v-60hz. Help!
