Q:

Why does my mower die when gears are engaged?

A:

Most likely you are not engaging one or both of the operator presence levers. You must hold down one or both when engaging the transmission or blades. I am including a link to the owners’ manual, the section covering operation begins on page 12, please click here Owners’ manual . If this does not remedy the issue, I strongly recommend calling a service professional to diagnose and repair your mower.

Q:

My Craftsman 36 inch model 247889360 runs for 10 min then cuts off and will not restart. Why?

A:

If the mower runs for close to the same amount of time each time you use it and shuts down, then won't restart for 15-20 minutes, it probably has a bad fuel cap.

The fuel cap has a breather built into it that lets air into the tank to fill the space that is created when the fuel is burned. If the air doesn't fill the tank, the tank will vapor lock and fuel stops flowing to the engine.

Try removing and reinstalling the fuel cap every 5 minutes. If this stops the problem, replace the fuel cap.
