Spark, Fuel, Air and Compression... Have you tried starting without the airfilter? Also, gently tap the carb bowl, sometimes the float sticks. Good luck.

I feel like we may have an issue with the ignition coil on the engine. Since you sprayed the starting fluid (bad idea by the way. Use carb cleaner, it’s not as harmful to the engine) and don’t even get a backfire, it makes me think that we aren’t getting spark.

Pull the spark plug out of the machine then connect it up to the spark plug lead wire. Pull the engine a few times and look at the end of the plug for spark. If no spark, try a new spark plug just to be sure we have a good one.

If there still is no spark you will need to access the ignition coil and pull the “kill” wire from the coil then pull the cord and check for spark. If still no spark then the coil has failed and will need to be replaced (pt. 796964).

If you do have spark with the kill wire removed there is something wrong in the kill circuit. On this engine it’s a pretty short run from the coil to where you shut the engine off at. That wire will need to be checked all the way to the shut-off mechanism to make sure it’s not grounding out or anything.

The only other thing I can think of is if a pushrod bent or came off. That would perhaps prevent the engine from “firing” and at least causing a backfire. It’s worth checking if everything else looks good.

I called the number from the bottom of page 30 as well. It looks like that number is now going to a phone bank that is covering several things. You have to request what you’re looking for in order to get into that part of the system. When the manuals go to print they are however they are forever. Numbers get shifted around sometimes and these kinds of problems surface. I apologize for the confusion.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!
