Question and Answers

what are the dimensions for drive belt fot DGS6500 roding mower, pt #125907x and is there a different belt or part number that will replace it 917.287462

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the store closing locally. I know how inconvenient that is.

You are correct that the replacement belts need to be the same size as the original. I have never seen a 'Universal' Craftsman belt before. All of our belts are model specific, meaning each model calls for a specific size. Belts do go on numerous models as long as they are the same size.

The drive belt 532125907 is 1/2" X 90". The deck belt is 5/8" X 148". You would need belts of those sizes to work. The first 'Universal' part number you provided doesn't appear to be valid, but the second one of 24102 is spec 1/2" X 95 1/2", so that belt would not work. It would be too long and would slip. There are no adjustments that can be made to accommodate different sized belts. We would recommend ordering your belts online if you don't have a store open locally to ensure you receive the correct OEM/replacement belts for the tractor model.

I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for using We appreciate your business.

Thank you for your question on the tractor struggling to go up hills in the higher gears.

If you have not replaced the original drive belt on the tractor I would suggest doing that.

You are right in that it sounds like the belt is slipping because of the added torque needed in the upper gears when going up hill.

I will give you the part number for the belt.

Drive motion belt for tractor model 917.271653 .

I you have a Sears store near by you can look for part number 24102 in the Lawn and Garden in the retail store for the same drive belt.

Thank you.

I'm having trouble replacing the ground drive belt on my Craftsman 917.271090 tractor.

I am sending you an image showing the belt routing of the ground drive belt for your tractor.

The part number, 24102, is the correct number according to my computer. Routing might be the answer.
