Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to get the correct torque specs for the head.

Start with the two center bolts first and work you way out X-cross pattern to half torque first 60 inch pounds and then again inside out to a final 130 inch pounds.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Q:

I was looking for parts for a 9.9 Gamefisher Boat Motor. It is a model 225.581996. There is a safety problem with the engine. Can it be fixed and by whom?

A:

If the serial number of the engine is between OEO35142 and OEO90702, the flywheel needs to be replaced. This work should be done by an authorized Mercury motor mechanic.

The danger is the flywheel can develop cracks in the metal around the center where the crankshaft comes through. If this area cracks the flywheel can break while turning and if it does the pieces become projectiles. The pieces of flywheel can penetrate the cover on the engine and hit someone causing possible serious bodily harm.

If the serial number on the engine is not within the serial range listed above, the flywheel does not have a problem and the safety warning should be ignored.
