Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about the part you ordered for Craftsman Outboard Motor. I am so sorry to hear you are having a problem with installing the new impeller. I am glad you have verified with our parts department that you have received the correct part. I will be happy to help you with the installation of the part.

Start by making sure that the Water Pump Backplate is aligned correctly in the gear housing. Next you will need to put the impeller key in place in the slot on the drive shaft. Then slide the impeller onto the drive shaft aligning the key way on the impeller with the key way on the drive shaft. Before you put the water pump body onto the drive shaft, it will help to spray the inside of it with a lubricant. If you need to purchase lubricant that is safe for your motor, I recommend Boeshield. To order that you can go to www.SearsPartsDirect.com and enter part number T90012.

Next align the pump body with the gear case as you are sliding it down the drive shaft. As the pump body comes in contact with the impeller, rotate the drive shaft clockwise as you press the pump body down. The rotating motion will help the impeller fins fit into the pump body. If you are still unable to install the impeller, I recommend contacting our www.SearsHomeServices.com for a repair center in you area that can assist you with installing the part.

If I can be of any further assistance, please respond to this thread. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Thank you Linda for your answer, I would still like to know if I have the correct impeller. The diameter of my impeller is 21/4 inches, and the diameter of my pump housing is 2 1/16 inches. I am a novice with outboard motors and would like to know if the fins are supposed to fit into the pump housing while bent over like that?

Thank you for your quick response. I can understand you concern that the part fit correctly. This part has not been changed by the manufacturer, so the replacement part is identical to the original. Unfortunately our system doesn't contain indepth details on a part such as the part's measurement. It is not information we use to identify and order parts since all parts listed under a model number are made for that product. To get the impeller's specifications you will need to contact the manufacturer directly. This part was made by a company called Mercury Marine. I have their contact number for you. It is 1-920-929-5040. Please be sure to have the outboard motor serial number with you when you call.

If the part you received doesn't not meet the manufacturer's specification, it is possible a mistake was made at the warehouse and we shipped the wrong part.  I hope this isn't the case, but because it is a possibility, I want to tell you the procedures to get your part order corrected. Please go to www.SearsPartsDirect.com to chat with an associate on line, or you can also contact our Customer Care department at 1-800-366-7278. I apologize that I do not have the exact answer to your question. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Thank you again for choosing Sears, we appreciate you as our valued customer.

Linda, Thank you so much for all your help on this matter with my impeller. The impeller was in fact the correct size. I did what you suggested and lubed it all up, as I turned it clockwise the pump housing slide ever so easily over it. Apparently the impeller is supposed to be just alittle bit larger than the pump house. I am happy to tell you that my motor went back together fairly easy and is running wonderfully. Thanks to your invaluable advise I am now looking forward to getting on the water, and I am alittle bit smarter when it comes to outboard motors. Yours sincerely , Shaun.
