I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the water heater. I know how frustrating it is not to have hot water.

If the pilot assembly stays lit, but there is no ignition of flame for the burner assembly, it sounds like a gas issue with the gas valve. It could be the gas valve is defective and is no longer supplying the gas to ignite the burner from the pilot. The part number for the gas valve is SP12258B. If you don't hear the ignition of flame from the burner being lit, it's likely not receiving the gas needed.

With the cost of the gas valve, it might be worth considering a replacement. For pricing and review, I have linked the gas valve below.
